It's Been a Big Day at Our House!

February 18, 2016

Today is a big day at our house.  First, our little sunshine received her 13th cast.  Second, our little man has just turned ONE today, as of 10:04am!  Before we get into the casting, let's chat about Emerson's birthday and some of Savanna's adventures over the last 10 weeks.

Emerson's Birthday:

He is such a sweetie and really loves his muslin bunny!  He has started saying the word "dog."  True, he says it most often when he is pointing to any kind of animal and sometimes other objects like books, but hey, it's a word!  Also, he is crawling on hands and knees, and pulling up to standing.  He has started to cruise a little bit too.  Walking won't be far behind!  Oh yeah, the most scary/exciting/crazy thing is that he can climb up our stairs to the second floor, pretty much unassisted.  He is a strong little dude!  At last check, he was 23.5 pounds and over 30 inches tall.  HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY, SWEET EMERSON!

Savanna's Adventures:

Taking Mocha for a walk.

Christmas Time.

Hanging out at a brewery and dancing on the stage with Daddy.

Posing pretty with her brother's "4 months old" sticker.

Jumping in puddles, with a skirt on of course!

Playing with Emerson.

Visiting with Santa.

Playing at the park in her new Lambie towel that she got for Christmas.

Silly selfie.

Playing and sledding in the big snow!

Daddy's got his hands full!

B-I-N-G-O

She's twinsies with her Barbie.

Hanging out and dancing at another brewery on Valentine's Day.

Cast Removal:

This cast was on for almost 11 weeks.  As the children get older, their growth slows down a bit.  Therefore, casts can stay on longer before they need to be changed.  This cast came off fairly easily.

Her back is looking really good!  Her skin also looked really good with no sores.  She kept saying it was "scratchy" though, just really itchy from the dry skin.

Casting Day - Lucky #13:

Savanna, her daddy, and Papa Billy arrived at Shriner's at 8:30am.  First she had her pre-op appointment where they take her height, weight, and other vitals.  Our little girl now weighs 30 pounds!!

Waiting to go back to the OR.

She was taken back for surgery about 10:00am and was out in recovery around 11:30am.

Recovering in her room.

Getting her moleskin and coban on.  Purple smiley faces this time!

Discharge wagon ride to the car.  Note all of her new loot...A My Little Pony comforter, Doc McStuffins book, and Dora activity set.  Plus, she got a new outfit for her Build-A-Bears.

She's such a trooper!

***In case you are wondering what a casting procedure is like, please check out the following blog posting from a fellow mama whose daughter underwent casting for a period of time.  Jackie (the mama) was given permission to watch a casting procedure and describes it really well for us.  I liked reading it because it set my mind at ease about some things that go on during the "surgery."  Savanna does not go to the same hospital as Jackie's daughter, but I am sure the procedures are very similar.

Nora's Journey With Early Onset Congenital Scoliosis

Savanna's next casting date is set for April 15, 2016.  We will do an x-ray the day before.  Fingers crossed for a straight spine!!  Thanks for reading!
